This has nothing to do with books, but I hope it cheers you up:
When I went to a tourist trap in Mexico last Christmas, I saw all the crap they were selling and couldn't bear to buy it because if I wanted real Mexican art, I should just get it from Crafty Chica.

I can't think of much that I kept- a pair of snowboarding boots that I eventually sold, and they were too small for him anyway. But I tend to cut my losses and just get out during break-ups, so I've lost a few things I loved to exes:
-one really kick-ass t-shirt from Israel that said: "Macabee Beer, the beer The Chosen People Choose" Same bf also kept my housekey, and when I asked for it back, he told me he had chucked it off a mountain in Colorado, when he was drunk and missing me.
-a big Day-of-the-Dead figurine bought for me in Mexico; I figured it would be bad to say "I'm dumping you, and I'm taking the Mexican Art you gave me too!"
-One of my favorite sweaters ever, black and nubby with a hood. Worst of all, it was at the home of a one-night stand, so there was no getting it back.
