Post Subject: Welcome new co-editors!!
I would like to welcome Christy Petterson and Nancy Flynn as the two new co-editors of getcrafty.com! Effective immediately, Nancy and Christy will be taking over Jean's previous role on get crafty.
W had big shoes to fill. First of all, thanks to Jean for helping us by recommending Nancy and Christy. Based on the getcrafty.com’s members’ feedback, it was important for us to continue Jean’s vision for this website, and Christy and Nancy, both long time committed members of getcrafty.com, will be fantastic co-editors. I would also like to thank all of the community members who have offered to help and made suggestions over the past week. The caliber and commitment of members of the getcrafty.com community never ceases to amaze me.
I know many of you are familiar with Nancy and Christy, but I thought I would post some more information just to give you a bit of background on both Nancy and Christy.
Nancy Flynn has been a member of Get Crafty since October 2004, and has written the Dilettante Crafter column since August of 2005. She credits Get Crafty with inspiring her to quit her day job and follow her dream of a more creative life. Thanks to the inspiration and support of the Get Crafty community she has written a craft book for teens that will be published in 2007 and has another in the works for 2008. She also designs a line of handbags (which she sells in local boutiques and craft fairs in Northern California) named after her Get Crafty handle belle epoque.
Craftiness and Christy Petterson go way back. In the 80s she constantly had an in-the-works friendship bracelet pinned to her jeans. Today she creates clothes and accessories for her line called ‘a bardis’ and plans the Indie Craft Experience with two other Atlanta designers. The Indie Craft Experience is a craft market and fashion show that takes place twice a year with participants from all over the country. Christy has been a member of Get Crafty since November of 2003 and has written a column on the site called “how to by ceebee” since August of 2005. She also travels to shows in other cities to sell her creations and you can come meet her at the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago (September 16 + 17) and Crafty Bastards in D.C. (October 1). www.abardis.com
Please join me in wishing all the best to Christy and Nancy!

Post Subject: craft fairs in CA
I thought it might be good to have a list of craft fairs in California--and other states for that matter. It's been hard trying to find good ones around--most of them don't have that cool young hip feel.
This is sad, but the only ones I know of are:
Bazaar Bizarre, Los Angeles, CA
Renegade Craft Fair, Brooklyn, NY
Renegade Craft Fair, Chicago, IL
Any others? California ones would be so good to know...

hi guys!
good luck in planning your event....it's lots of fun! however, you can't use the name *renegade craft fair* as we have trademarked the name....so you'll have to come up with your own title for it. it's more fun that way anyway to make it your own. also, we're trying to expand the fair and launch it other cities so we're concerned about people mistakenly thinking we're affiliated. thanks for your understanding!

Announcing HOMEGROWN! Art & Craft Bazaar, Cincinnati, OH- Spring 2008!
Hello everyone, in or near Cincinnati, OH! I am working on organizing a craft show for this spring. If you would like to learn more, participate, or help out, please get in touch with me. Also, spread the word (there will soon be a website with info), send ideas, suggestions, etc. If you are wondering what sort of craft show this is patterned after, please check out Handmade Bazaar and Crafty Wonderland, two craft shows from Portland, OR, and the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago! Items like handmade bags, clothing, knit items, screen prints, t-shirts, artwork, gifts, jewelry, etc. are all things I hope will be found at the Cincinnati craft show... Also something I will be working on is organizing a craft/sewing collective to get all the crafty people of Cincinnati and surrounding areas together to have some fun! Anyone interested?! Contact me, and keep an eye out for more info and a website coming soon! Stay crafty this Winter and prepare for the show! Yay!

It's awesome, Kitchensqeen! It gets a lot more national indie crafters than some of the other shows in Chicago, which I think makes it special. Some of the people I consider crafty "celebrities" will be there--like Marie Kare of the Sampler. But I'm afraid I'll pass out like a silly Beatles fan if I meet her in person!
Get there early because the first 500 shoppers each day who stop by the Renegade Craft Fair booth will receive a FREE Goodie Bag filled with magazines, coupons, stickers, buttons and more.

Anyone know if they've announced the dates for the next one?
The next Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago is on December 9th & 10th 2006. It will be at Pulaski Park (1419 West Blackhawk). I think they are accepting application starting October 1st. I visited the website and there is no information as of yet.
I went to the Craft Fair earlier this month and it was awsome. There was a wide variety of crafters. Very cool wares and fun people to talk to.
I am going to try and apply for the one in Dec. This will be my first Craft Fair if I make it in.

Oh Man CraftyCHica;you always know the down low!
Jenny;I think it would look tacky to have the donation thing on the site...My humble opinion.I think people dont want to see a succesful business with the 'need' sign hung out front.
How about some art botiques like La Bussola in Reno(They have an art and wine event once a quarter or once a month) or galleries...Renegade Craft Fair or Bizzar Bazzar;two birds with one stone,Portland Oregon has some crafty ladies shops on Ashbury and they run a once a month street fair.(Powell Books is a good retailer to get in contact with up there I think)

I responded to the other thread, but yeah maybe some kind of special fundraising swag like t-shirts or postcards? And you know you have a network of gals all over the place who'd be happy to host you.
I haven't seen her around the new boards yet, but craftychicklet owns La Bussola. And just from my dealings with her (furniture purchasing and getting her in touch with Susan Stars), I'm sure she'd love to talk with you about at least about carrying the book and your products. Especially since her shop offers many fine products from glitterati/craftista types. And I'm sure the Northern California gals could get you lined up with some shops in the Bay Area and/or Sacramento. Starfish (I don't think she reregistered after the switch) would probably know better than me who to talk to about bookstores in Sacramento. But you might also want to talk to Tonevendor Records because one of the owners is part of the Blissen Collective. So they've done art walk events with them. And also haven't seen her around here, but Neesy Pea/Star Serge would probably also be a good person to talk to about places to appear.
