Post Subject: Tailoring
HIya! I''m new on the site, well after I had to re-register. Anyway, I''m the editor-in-chief of Modern Seamster, a design + sewing magazine, and funny you should be asking about tailoring for men! It''s hard to come by isn''t it, this sewing for men? Believe me when I say I''ve been looking for people to fill that part of the editorial. So far, nada.
However, all is not lost. We will have a whole tailoring issue next year but in the meantime, we''re still on the lookout for men who sew! WHERE are you?! Oh and you can always pick up a Vogue sewing book, they have good tailoring tips and this book: Gentleman by Bernhard Roetzel--that will tell all about the fine art of haberdashery! Good luck.

P.S. We''re not a super project based magazine. Our aim is to inspire :-)

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions! I am now going to check out the Burda magazine, the new BUST, and MySewing Classes.com. (And I'll still read Threads, I promise.) I guess a lot of the stuff I'm looking for is online, but I'm just an old fashioned girl who likes to read magazines in the bathtub.
It does sound like there's a lot of interest for a new sewing magazine, if anyone out there is looking for something to do . . .

Post Subject: gripe of the day: sewing magazines
Does anyone know of a good, interesting sewing magazine? There seems (or seams, hah!) to be a real gap in the market. Knitters get their pick of hip knitting magazines. Sewers get bupkus. I do like Threads, but the projects are generally for a more sophisticated/tame, less craftista-type crowd.
I'd like to see articles like re-sizing vintage patterns, fun skirt variations, flower brooches, and cute casual clothes (thanks, but I don't need a silk kimono jacket with beaded dragonflies and matching flowy pants).
Maybe something like a print version of SavvySeams.com . . .

we do need a hip sewing magazine.
Threads used to be *way* better. if you can get your hands on any issues from the first one through the late 80's, they have great articles. they also used to have articles about knitting, crocheting, weaving, etc. i wish they hadn't changed format.
i usually don't like Burda patterns, and i am terrified of the pattern page that comes with the magazine (the one with all the pattern pieces all printed over and over each other... gah!).
if anyone starts a good sewing 'zine, i'd love to contribute!

Well, there are the ones I choose....
Bust
Midwifery Today
HipMama
Mothering
Cooking Light
Ottobre (a Finnish sewing magazine with free patterns!)
professional journals for special education (my work)
and then there are the ones my mom and dad give me every year...
Southern Living
Real Simple
Organic Gardening
International Society of Bassists journal
Better Homes and Gardens
I could do without a couple of the former category, but I haven't had the heart to tell my folks!
