Doesn't look like anyone's mentioned the book Saving Dinner by Leanne Ely, so I thought I'd throw that in...It's pretty good; I guess the main selling point is that it gives you preplanned weekly menus and shopping lists; plus there are a few decent slow cooker recipes, and the stuff is nutritious (the author is a nutritionist). A few recipes are real losers (maybe your kids will like Cabbage Roll Turkey Packets, but mine were horrified), but you can always substitute. Overall, Microsinger's cooking looks better though!
I second trying to stay out of the store except for strictly once a week...I am now eight months pregnant and a major financial menace in the supermarket, so even this is getting to be too much! (It all looks so good..and why should I deny myself a pint, or three, of the really good ice cream? Etc.) Our last visit topped $200 for the first time ever, which was frightening. Gotta rein myself in and focus on those menu lists...
In any case, good for you for putting in the effort to feed your family more healthfully! Tons of kids & adults hardly eat anything except junky restaurant food - any home cooking at all is a big improvement over that!
