Post Subject: Water Quality inhibiting craftiness & your favorite iron
Hi all - I am currently very frustrated with my village/cities water quality! The yokel who run the show here f-ed up the 200,000 dollar reverse osmosis filter that they installed last year and now our water is even harder than it was before! They are supposed to have it partially restored in a few days (it has been 'offline' for a few months) My iron has SO MUCH sediment in it - yuck! and i LOVE my iron (rowenta professional press off of ebay!!) - It makes me super-unhappy to see what crap falling out of it. Oh - I just remembered we have our dehumidifier downstairs - I will try putting that water in till the dorks running the water show here figure it out.
and - I usually use oxyclean to soak stains and have never had any problems with it being harsh. The last 2 times the usual amount of oxyclean & hot water left the clothes feeling like the were made of straw - really dry and yucky. It was only after the second item that I put 2 and 2 together about the water quality!
So - what kind of irons do you use? Are you happy with it? My professional press is nice and heavy, no auto shutoff, and used to have a steam burst button, but I think my f-ing water may have done something to it. I took a chance and bought it off ebay from somebody with zillions of good feedback. I have been very happy with it. My dad had been ranting about how he hates lightweight irons and doesn't like the teflon coating surface, so I tried this one that is heavy and has a stainless steel surface. I have a couple of vintage irons that are really heavy and really good looking. My granny has her 'new' iron for regular stuff, but still has her really old iron for stubborn wrinkles. I love seeing her use it!

Post Subject: craft show survivor
Well I did it! and I even sold some stuff - yay! It was a very small 'craft' section of a summer festival in my home town. There isn't a lot of emphasis on the craft part, it is more about food and music so I was pretty pleased with the turnout. I sold 8 bags and the best part was that 2 of them were sold to people I don't know!! somehow it seems even better when it is someone that doesn't know me that buys them -know what I mean? 2 sold on friday and the other 6 on saturday.
On the other craft show thread at getcrafty someone recommended the craftshow 101 at loosetooth.com I can't tell you how helpful this site was in getting ready - becky has done a great job laying it all out!

I was most happy with the banner for my biz name - of course the best idea came to me at the 11th hour (otherwise known as 12:30 am the night before). but it was great. I printed out charm school in size 700 (2 letters per page) on that iron on paper, then I ironed it flat onto the back of some great pink faux ultrasuede. I cut it out and then glued it pink side up onto some gorgeous vintage green cut velvet. Yum!! I don't have the picture anywhere but in one of my online files yet - If you want to see how it turned out drop me a line. It looked really good, If I do say so myself -esp. for the price!
Brandy's idea that worked best for me was to give them something to take away - I am too cheap to do buttons so I printed out little round stickers with a vintage image on them and my website addy printed around the outside. Avery does round circle stickers and they finally built some templates for them that ROCK! When the stickers first came out the template sucked -you could hardly do anything. People loved the stickers.
oh, and you know what was the weirdest part of the weekend? This guy that I lived with in college walked past with what appeared to be a significant other and their child - I haven't seen or heard from him in 15 years. You could have knocked me over with a feather. I don't think he saw me and I was far too shocked to say anything, but it sure was weird. (I left him, in case you were wondering ha!)
Now I need to clean my work room - holy shit what a mess!
thanks for listening

OMG! That eglu is hilarious - I love it! We live in a village and I am sure there are 'ordinances' against having farm animals in town (ridiculous! - there should be a differentiation between, say, a horse and 4 chickens, don't you think?)
I am going to forward the eglu page to my mother, she is going to love it! I am going to go back and check out their about us page 'to find out more about how an eglu and chickens will bring my garden to life'.
thanks!

I LOVE IT!! It is pink with a black silouette/line drawing thing of her - I got it from y que trading post
http://www.yque.com and it is great! They have a great rant on the page with all the martha shirts that I totally agree with - I can't wait to wear it!
Anyone THAT driven has to be as crazy as a shithouse rat, man or woman. And I don't care! I feel for her daughter cause it would suck to have a mom that nutty, but we all have our burdens to bear! She sure knows what she is doing (up until the fib) and I love what she has done for handcrafts, 'domestic arts' and gardening. Her stylists rock - I may not like every project but there are loads that I really love.
