I thought the movie "Crazy Beautiful" was pretty sucky, but the photoalbum things she made were really cool!
& in "White Oleander," which was an okay movie, the main character made these diorama things in suitcases that were pretty cool... oh, & the mom took photos & made some cool things.

I always get inspired by movies. I love White Oleander because of the killer suitcase shadowboxes the girl makes at the end. And I love How to Make an American Quilt because of, well the quilt! Pretty in Pink is a good one, I forgot about that one!

"Pretty In Pink" is one of my all-time favorites too. Iona is my hero! Even all toned down for her date with the yuppie, she's the quirky individualist I always wanted to grow up to be.

One thing I only just noticed, though, on my most recent viewing: In one scene, Andie's dad asks her how she could afford her new outfit. She replies that the shoes were $15 secondhand, and she made the rest.

Made it out of what? Did she knock over a fabric store or something? John Hughes did so much for my generation, I suppose I can forgive him for being unaware that craft supplies aren't free (or often, even cheap). That scene is just always gonna make me do a dog-head-tilt from now on.

It's not a crafty kind of movie at all but I liked Twister. The mother of the leading lady played by Helen Hunt makes this wind chimes that are related to the hurricanes that the movie is about. I really admired those.

There are so many movies I feel that are fun to do crafts with but my ultimate is How to Make An American Quilt it's a really touching movie about all of these different women who make this quilt for one of their grandaughter's (her wedding quilt) I recommend you all check it out!

in Being John Malkovich, didn't John Cusak's character make his own puppets? that one popped into my head.

ooh! and Real Women Have Curves - the sister designs and builds her own clothes and they have the fashion show at the end.

and i third or fourth, or whatever we're up to now, Pretty in Pink. I love Andi and Iona and I still dream about Ducky.

i guess it's more arty than crafty, but Basquiat is a fab movie and makes me want to paint.

I loved the staircase in "Benny & Joon" -- all the spindles were painted different colors (and not Martha-perfect, more like a kid had done it). It obviously made an impact if I remember it 11 years later!

Some quotes from http://www.imdb.com

"Charmed" (TV)
Paige: [speaking to Piper in an alternate reality] And you, you're not La Femme Nikita, you're a Charmed One. Yeah, you don't mind kicking ass when you have to, but otherwise you'd rather be hanging out with your sisters, baking cookies, or knitting booties.
Piper: Knitting booties? Clearly you don't know me at all.

"Maude" (TV)
[After Walter has a heart attack, he pretends that he is feeble so Maude will feel sorry for him. He attempts to do some knitting.]
Vivian Harmon: Arthur, what about S-E-X?"
Maude Findlay: SEX? Vivian, he can hardly K-N-I-T.

Mildred Pierce
Mildred: I'm sorry this had to happen; sorry for the boy, he seemed very nice.
Veda: Oh Ted's alright really. Did you see the look on his face when we told him he was going to be a father? [laughs]
Mildred: I wish you wouldn't joke about it.
Veda: Mother, you're a scream, really you are. The next thing I know you'll be knitting little garments.
Mildred: I don't see anything so ridiculous about that.
Veda: If I were you, I'd save myself the trouble.

Pee-wee's Big Adventure
Pee-wee: The mind plays tricks on you. You play tricks back! It's like you're unraveling a big cable-knit sweater that someone keeps knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting...

"Malcolm in the Middle" (TV)
Grandma Ida: I should've kissed your boo-boos and made them better. I was supposed to tell the bad little boy stories and bake you giant sugar cookies and knit you nice, fluffy sweaters. I should've carried you and held you and told you how much I loved your diapers.

"The Simpsons" (TV)
Marge: Homer, I don't want you driving around in a car you built yourself.
Homer: You can sit there complaining, or you can knit me some seat belts.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying
J. Pierpont Finch: I feel sorry for men who don't knit, they lead empty lives.

Katrin,
I think that molly ringwald's character in pretty in pink was given the dress by her friend from the record store and that she supposedly just cut it up and revamped it, i.e. I don't think they showed her with a brand new bolt of fabric, but then again I haven't seen the movie in a while.

while this wasn't a faboo movie, 40 days and 40 nights had josh hartnett making some sort of shrine/diorama and that was cool :)

That was a different dress, the prom dress. The outfit she supposedly made for free (except the shoes) was a rather elaborately layered vintage skirt, blouse, nice lacy little cardigan—very cool, but the materials certainly didn't come from a dumpster. :)

I do heart that movie.
