okay, back to my medicine cabinet. it has another annoying feature. it gets super moldy on the inside regularly. and it's stubborn mold too. the paint on it is really thick, and when it gets damp inside the bathroom (after showers) it sticks a little bit if it's closed all the way. i'm really not sure how to deal with this, but i hate having my stuff in the cabinet because it gets all gross!

any suggestions?

When I first moved into my apartment I complained to my landlord about a mold problem in my bathroom. She recommended this stuff called X-14. You can buy it at Home Depot or a large hardware store (as where the heavy duty cleaners are, usually near the mops and stuff). It comes in a spray bottle and all you do is spray it on the mold and the stuff disappears! The bottle says you are supposed to "rinse" the area you've sprayed afterwards, but I never do. I spray it on my bathroom walls , leave and go do something, come back a few minutes later, and all the mold is magically gone! Oh, and make sure to get x-14 mildew/maximum strength. I first purchased the x-14 shower cleaner spray, and it didn't work at all. Now I know better. Hope this helps :)

There is an additive you can put in paint that prevents mold from growing back for up to 5 years. The bathroom in my parent's house was like that, mold all along the walls because there wasn't an exhaust fan to suck out the moisture, so we painted it over and put in the additive.

Good Luck!

from what I've researched, the best way to get rid of mold is to make a bleach solution. I did about 1/3 bleach 2/3 water in a spray bottle (that i carefully marked so no one tried to use it to iron their clothes or wet down the plants...then i sprayed the moldy areas, let sit for a minute and wiped it off.

Easy b/c most people have bleach at home already and also it's cheaper than x14. I also bought this stuff called damprid, it comes in a plastic container and is basically a dessicant, it sucks moisture out of the air so it doesn't linger so much, it's about 2.99 at linens and things.

my bathroom isnt' bone dry but the mold has been absent for about a month since i did the bleach and got the damprid

good luck
