ah man. i love that movie. oh. have to put it on netflix... |
I love it too! And she spends so much time making the wrapping paper and the asshole in the store tells her she wants too much for it, cause he (like the rest of the world) has no idea how expensive, both monetarily and timewise, it can be to create things. Ah, the way of the craft. |

On "Gilmore Girls," Paris had a craft corner in her & Rory's dorm room: "I was just setting up my craft corner. Some mosaic tiles, some colored beads. Still kind of kids' stuff, but Terrence [her "life coach"] showed me how working with my hands could help with my nerves."
A little later:
LORELAI: Oh my God, check out Paris' craft corner.
RORY: She gets more done before nine than other people do all day.
LORELAI: She's a craft person now, so it's not safe to leave anything around her anymore.
RORY: Maybe that's where crafty comes from.
LORELAI: Good point.
And I just read a post on the Knitty forum about two films -- one Korean, one Chinese -- that feature knitting in their plots. The first is a girl kicking-butt action/romance called SHIRI in which one of the gals is knitting her boyfriend a sweater. The second is TOGETHER in which the father is unravelling an old sweater to knit a new and special sweater for his son. The neighbor helps him do a fancy design in another yarn color. |

In the newer Coen Brothers' Ladykillers, the old lady main character knits. Nothing very hipster about it, though!
The whole booby-trapping parts in Parent Trap and also Private Benjamin are kind of crafty.
I loved that Simpsons knitting quote, and man, I wish I had tv just so I could watch Gilmore Girls. I miss that show. _________________ Dollar Store Crafts - CraftFail - CROQ Zine |

It was very sad but I thought it was really well-done--and the teenage protagonists make little plasticine figures of the characters who inhabit their fantasy world, and parade around in homemade costumes sometimes, and sketch horses and whatnot (I drew a lot of horses when I was a teenager, too...). |
Back when that movie was released I accidentaly booked it for Mother's Day weekend (I scheduled a 2nd run moviehouse). My distributor called me back to tell me I needed therapy.
I've Heard the Mermaids Singing - I just loved her photography and the movie is so great!
The Big Night is my favorite cooking movie. Best dinner party scene of all time is when the pretty girl is just crying amidst empty patters and plates and all she says is "my mother was a lousy cook". Then they bring out the main course.
The Fisher King when he makes the doll chair from the Champagne cork. That was so sweet.
Oh! and the (maybe a Quay brothers?) film of Alice and Wonderland done with sock puppets and stop motion photography. Creepy but cool. _________________ Every year, back comes spring, with nasty little birds yapping their fool heads off and the ground all mucked up with plants - Dorothy Parker |

"One Night at McCool's."
The main girl in the movie played by Liv Tyler finds this guy, kind plays him...but makes his house so gorgeous and colorful. |

a great documentary for anyone who loves dumpster diving, recycling, taking the discarded remnants and scraps of life and reusing them or transforming them into something new -- is the gleaners and i.
expanding upon the old paintings of women gleaning wheat in the fields of france, agnes varda explores the same concept in modern day life -- from artists, to activists, to homeless youths... a nice movie. _________________ (formerly inkbleedgirl!) |
