I think that my fav part of hankie code is that "lavender" means drag queen. Don't you think it'd be pretty easy to spot a drag queen without the hanky code? Ah the boys and there codes. |

Utilikilts: I've been lucky to see almost uniformly good looking men wearing them. Actually, I just spent a weekend where I got to see lots of cute guys in kilts, including my akido instructor friend Keith in his black leather version.
Mishy: maybe even drag queens need a little down time! |

The guy who makes them is quite a nut (not because he wears a kilt but because well...he's a nut!) but he looks good in the thing I must say. Unfortunately I see a lot of guys wearing them who really should rethink the idea ;)
I guess I'm biased because I have a couple of co-workers who have worn these trying to be "so different" and it kind of bugs me. Maybe my shrink is right...maybe I AM a bad person ;)

Is this actually for real? I can't believe all the options (including "beer gut cut" for an extra $25) I kind of want one of these, even though i'm a girl....

my little brother who makes noise music AND my little brother who makes southern rock / psychobilly both wear girls pants for the fit. which is wierd, because i tend to like the looser fit of boys jeans.
and "Grindcore is another style of music," Leblanc said. "It's really out there, spastic, crazy -- people who like grind usually wear the belt." is lame ... i hate the "you must wear this to listen to that" scenester-consumer mentality.
if you really like black hair (which i do) rock out in black hair. if you like white belts (which i don't), yay for you. if you want to bleach your hair blond and then put in leopard spots, awesomeness. but it bugs the crap out of me when ravers think they HAVE to wear phat pants, and ska kids think they have to dress like early No Doubt, indy rock kids think they MUST drink PBR, etc.
love,

I was just thinking today about a former coworker of mine who very emphatically and proudly proclaimed, "I'm a street racer! And street racers always drink Corona!"
Way to be an induhvidual there, kiddo. |

well, I'm not going to diss anyone's style since I dress strangely sometimes-however I don't really dig the "carpenter crack" look from anyone-girl or guy. Seeing someone's but crack is too much for me. Like my husband says "Crack kills!!!"
Anywho, the only guy I knew who wore girl's pants was gay..and he also loves anything to do with paris hilton, and does dress in drag regularlly. I haven't noticed any "hardcore" guys wearing girl's jeans in my area-they are still stuck in the "10 sizes too big" look. Maybe I just live in a time warp or something. What's big here is men wearing the color pink. No comments. _________________ I want to draw like a child!-Picasso |

don't worry. i wasn't baggin' on pbr drinkers. i'm one of 'em!
i donno how fashioncore is different than scenesters. i think fashioncore is more blunt and up front with their desire to seem cool. but i donno. i'm just guessing by the name.
and what are devil-locks? |

pbr love!! I get what you are saying. I hear kids ( not really kids, but drinking-age kids) quirping about pbr or schlitz or colt45 yet they cant take a swallow without the applicable beer-face. living in a college town is like that sometimes.
the devil lock is the glen danzig 'do. long in front and in the face. davey havok of AFI sported one for a while. I dont even think they looked all that good on danzig let alone the greasy kid around the corner.
im a little bitter becuase nerd-core is also very hot. so what are us real nerds supposed to do when our un-underminable cliche is undermined? and the 80's shite. I feel so ugh, when I see rainbow bright and my little pony. Is my childhood that marketable/trivial? makes me feel like shite.
sorry for the side rant. |

Wow...I am out of it too...but then I'll just use living in rural Wyoming as my excuse...the boys here wear tight jeans too...but they're called Wranglers ;)
I knew there were guys out there wearing slim fitting pants but didn't know that they were buying girls jeans...I dig the slim fitting look but GIRLS JEANS??? I've spent years wishing that our jeans/pants were sized like Men's instead of the cracked out way they size them now--I don't even have a clue what size a wear if I try on a new brand or go to a new store (and I get annoyed that the more expensive the store is...the smaller size I wear...sneaky ploy to get girls to buy their jeans because they make them feel better about their size...what BS!) I can't fathom why any guy would decide to submit himself to the craziness of shopping for girls jeans...I'm a girl and *I* don't even like trying to find girl's jeans...Anyway...
I can understand people wanting to be different or differentiate themselves from other groups...but once you start dressing alike, you're not really being different anymore....isn't "we all wear girl jeans and white belts" kinda like "we all wear abercrombie and fitch and flip-flops"?? Reminds me of the "let's all wear purple on Tuesday" days in grade school ;)
and the HOT TOPIC stores in the malls now...selling all this, I guess wanna-be punk and wanna-be gothic clothing..torn, pinned up, hot pink, black, fishnets etc...it's like "how punk can you be if you're buying your clothes at the mall?" (I'm not punk at all, so I'm not an expert but something seems a little wrong here)
No worries about the nerd-core thing though...being a nerd has more to do with being smart then dressing some way...and lucky for us nerds...you can't fake intelligence and being smart never goes out of style ;) _________________ "If we do not meet with agreeable things,

I have to defend Hot Topic. Yes, it seems a little ridiculous to buy pre-torn clothing (or throw in whatever subcultural comment you like). However, for many kids stuck in small towns, Hot Topic is their only chance at getting black tshirts and alternative wear. I say god bless 'em. :) _________________ "I don't see a problem here. Sorry I think my feelings about jeans shopping might have spilled over into my whole post and made it sound different than what I meant...People should always dress however and buy whatever they want to wear
I just remember the kids that dressed alternatively back in junior high, high school...and they put together their outfits themselves...shopping at thrift stores, altering items, sewing shirts together, tearing their own holes in their clothing, etc...while I didn't want to dress that way, I did admire the fact that they dressed exactly how they wanted and that they were wearing something completely unique--truly alternative to store-bought, mainstream clothing
What I'm saying about Hot Topic is that...because THEY are selling the clothes, already all torn and put together, and most likely similar or exactly the same mass-manufactured items in every store across America, what they are selling and what people are buying is not alternative _________________ "If we do not meet with agreeable things,

See the photo Karen posted on pg 1.
The fashioncore look is traditionally huge in Philly, though lately guys seem to be favoring some sort of dirty rocker style (mainly just means longer hair and fewer tight t-shirts). It's funny to see large groups of people changing their look.
"Also common among fashioncore style is a white belt to go with the female pants, although this is usually only popular among those who like grindcore."
Never heard of this. Most grindcore fans I know just wear black t-shirt with band logo and black jeans. Another costume (one I admit I sport from time to time!) |
