Hi All

I am compiling a list of little treats under $10 to have on hand when I feel the shopping urge (or the need of something special) that will be within my, very small budget.

Anyone have any suggestions?

To start:

1. Small bunch of flowers
2. Classical music CD (often discounted)
3. Second hand book
4. A quality chocolate bar

Cookbooks! I can usually find one for under ten dollars at Barnes and Noble or some place like that; granted, they're not the best. But I got a cute little "Asian hot and spicy" one for very cheap.

Craft supplies!
Sunglasses (I never spend more than five dollars on sunglasses, and they're always better than everyone else's I see.)

Sunglasses are my next object of collection. For awhile I collected winter scarves, but now I want hollywood-esque sunglasses. Thank God for Dollar General.

Scarves - winter or just plain silky and glamourous - is a great idea. I could wander through thrift stores and build up a collection! Might improve my rather shabby wardrobe too!

(Hope you don't mind me 'borrowing' your collection idea.)

Beads (or is that just me? haha)

Visit your local used book store! I bought three awesome paperbacks the other day for less than $6.

I would agree with beads...and then you have an amazing piece of jewelry at the end.

I also like to go and buy a nice magazine, and a relatively cheap bottle of wine, and for under $10, you can have a relaxing evening.

Another thing I like to do is buy a new Rubbermaid/organization device, and then re-arrange craft supplies. I usually find some stuff I forgot about, and it lends iteself to great ideas.

I also like to check the clearance section in the Wal Mart craft area...there can be some real bargains in there!

my mom is big on trying something new at the supermarket... especially if it's an ethic place. because of her, we were one of the first people in nj to try kiwi (yes, over 20 years ago this was exotic)

A facial mask from the drugstore (I like Queen Helene's English clay mask - $3), a new polish for your toes, and some bubble bath?

All good suggestions, so I have only one contribution to the list:

-- A really nice wedge/wheel/block of quality (possibly imported) cheese. Mmmmm.

Suddenly I'm wishing we had a wedge of brie in the fridge ...

  • Videos or DVDs - for $10, you can get some good movies on VHS or offbeat movies on DVD. I love to dive through the budget movie bins at Suncoast.
  • Books from the thrift store
  • Small rubber stamp ink pads
  • Clearance-priced rubber stamps from Hobby Lobby
  • A Ream of Wassau Astrobrights or Astronights paper
  • Scented hand lotion

cool stationery from unexpected places. I got a box of cute sleepy doggy notecards at marshalls for 6 bucks, rather than the normal 13 or 14 that they are in a card shop :)

makeup is usually less than 10 dollars

a jamba juice, yummmm

an art canvas

a tube of paint

a decent brush

i try not to buy too many tchotchkies, b/c they take up space, but i like to buy stuff that i can send away or use or make stuff with :)

jt
