What took me so long?

I certainly hope this the appropriate place to post this. If not, moderators, please feel free to move it.

When my former favorite forum moved, I was concerned that some of the changes in style might dramatically alter the personality of the whole place, but I hoped that my worries were unfounded.

Unfortunately my fears came true, even more quickly than I'd expected. I'm not knocking the "new old forum" - it's still a terrific community for some (and I know quite a few people like both that forum and this one, and that's cool). Its focus is simply toward lifestyles and interests that are different from mine, and I don't feel like I have much of a place there.

So I was left with this hole in my life: Where can I go now to discuss the things that do interest me? With whom can I share my creative and crafty ideas? How will I fill my hours at someone else's desk during those boring temp jobs?

Well, thank goodness - by chance today I found a link to getcrafty.com on a site I hardly ever read, and through that I found this forum. What took me so long? Why hadn't I known about it before? Hip Home Ec is exactly what I was looking for, with some familiar names and everything. My faith is restored that there's enough room on this big ol' Web for everyone! I'm looking forward to spending lots of time here. :)

It's been years since I've read every word on the old/new glitter. Maybe I'm too old. It's not the pop culture references or the feminism or the fluff. I'm one who can wax sentimental of the days when many of us used our own first names as usernames. I like new things, I like shaking things up, I like outrageous acts of extraordinary creativity. I did not read some of the nastiness over there, just saw snippets here and there. But when I read someone blasting siobhan for contacting tsia, I thought "This is not my glitter, no one knows who anyone else is anymore." I don't care for siobhan, just old messages coming to haunt me, but shit... that was just uncalled for. It's the lack of thinking before you write to bash someone, the lack of considering that there might be a reason. We have folks capable of that here, but the calmness of the boards and the creative flow keep us cohesive.

Eh.

I do miss wisheveled and B. Baltimore here, though. Lots of other inspiring folk are here and I am more than pleased to see all of you.

I've just finally found my way back here- I was never a huge contributor on either of the boards but I did find myself checking glitter less and less often though I couldn't put my finger on why I was doing that. It's great to finally discover this is here and i'm looking forward to catching up and not feeling like I can't contribute if i'm away for a few days...

i must add my two cents that yes, this board is the friendly, crafty, kind place that the other one sometimes is not.

too many times on the other board i would post only to feel attacked. getcrafty is hip without an overkill of attitude.
