convert to hipster jeans

does any one have that sewing hint to share with me? I have two girls that received jeans from aunts and grandparents that come up past the belly button. I have about 6 pairs to convert. any hints ladies?

Wasn't there an article about this on the old Getcrafty? I remember one, but it doesn't seem to be one of the articles that made the transfer to either the new Getcrafty or to Supernaturale. Hmmm ... there's also that "time machine" website where you can look at an old website from x years/months ago and see how it used to be ... if someone could post a link to that, I could find you the article on this topic. Or if someone knows of a website where those instructions ended up ... that would probably be easier.
