Although I know that I should be all up in arms about this, the reality is that I'm not. I can envision some scenarios in which this type of service could be useful. As long as it's legit (meaning, the women actually get paid) and the company takes steps to protect everyone's privacy, the only thing I want to know is where's the imaginary boyfriend?
I am sorely tempted to sign up to be a girlfriend myself. I'd be better at being an imaginary girlfriend than I ever would be as a real one. Must resist...

Heh, I've known plenty of guys that had imaginary girlfriends and only a few women with imaginary guyfriends. But they were always so obvious. This is discrete and could possibly help for the guy or girl who needs to present some reason for not partaking of the local talent in the office or wherever.
Could be all kinds of legitimate reasons to fake a girlfriend or boyfriend. It's not the sort of thing I would do, but I did once take my gay coworker's boyfriend to a black tie business dinner as my date, mostly so the two guys could be together in formal gear for once. My husband was at a hockey game...
And an old friend of mine used to keep a photo of me from a party at his house, where it looks like I am lounging about his living room by myself in something slinky. He'd put it up on the mantle to declare himself off limits to some acquaintances rather than explain his lack of interest. |

i guess i should post my thoughts on this, since i started the thread.
i think it's funny. all i can think of is when zorak asked brak if he ever had a girlfriend and brak goes on this little monologue about how he had imaginary girlfriends and was all proud.
it just seems kind of weird to me. not bad, but weird. like "they've thought of everything now..."

It sort of reminds me of a Saturday Night Live fake-commercial.
I'm not offended by it. I just feel bad for people who have to use it! _________________ When you got a hundred voices singin',

| Hmmm...I do need some extra cash. This reminds me of the time I bought my friend a boyfriend in a box. |

I had an imaginary boyfriend once, sort of. I was just trying to get my mom off my back. If I'm not in a relationship I hear about it whenever I go home for a visit.
In college I'd gone out with this guy a few times but nothing really came of it before he went abroad for a semester. I wouldn't have even mentioned him to my parents, except my mom started in on me so I just embellished our relationship a bit and told her, I'd had a boyfriend but we just broke up because he was leaving for six whole months, so can we please not talk about it anymore sniff sniff?
So I understand the need, but I think it is easier to pretend you just got out of a relationship so you can pull the "I can't talk about it" card. Of course, that only works if you go for 9 months without talking to your parents, like I do. |

That is not worth the money.
$45 for a girlfried for 2 months. The girl probably would get half that, so maybe $24 if the company is being generous. So for $12 a month, the girl has to write/email/send photos on a daily basis. And the letters have to be hand written 2-3 page deals, which is time consuming. Especially if you have to think up stories to write about.
I participated in a medical research thing a few years ago, and my compensation was $80 for a 2 month study. All I had to do was fill in a 10 question survey every day. That survey got really annoying, and I can only imagine how irritating writing long love letters to a stranger would be. I wouldn't do it for $12 a month. |

Yeah, you might as well go be a secret shopper. They make more money, I think, and the job is just as annoying. _________________ When you got a hundred voices singin',

Hah! George Glass. Wonderful Brady reference. Anytime a Brady reference can be woven into conversation, I believe it should be taken advantage of.
I had a hard time figuring out if the website was for real or not. |

| That's so weird, I can't tell if it's a real site or not, either. They try to act like it's very above board and not selling internet sex, but I imagine you can request letters that are very explicit sexually, and correspond for your own reasons rather than to show others you have a girlfriend. Also, the pictures of the girls do not say to me, "This is a woman I have a long distance relationship with," they say, "I am a sexy stripper who you found on the internet and there is no chance you have ever met in real life." |
