We're putting together a new craft show aimed at the 20-40 set and want to know if you would enjoy a series that encompassed the variety of needle arts, like embroidery, cross stitching, quilting and also included crochet and rug hooking. Are the "purists" out there turned off by adding quilting, crocheting and rug hooking? What are your thoughts? Thank you!! |

| Thanks, Abigail. Would you watch the show if it had more than just how to quilt? Would you stay tuned to see other kinds of projects? |

actually there is a huge movement going on right now with needle arts - venus just spotlighted an artist that does rug hook purses with pop art pictures, there are funky kits by indie designers on the market too.
anything that shows a new and different twist to an old favorite is great in my crafty world. i like to see crafts that make me gasp "Why didn't i think of that?"
you should do a sewing machine 101 for people who are scared by using machines. i know a lot of artists/crafters who are intimadated just at the thought of trying to go backwards! i am a self taught sewer, i started with placemat purses and worked my way up. now i do wild collage story quilts and all kinds of pillows... _________________ ***

Hello Crafty TV,
Have you thought of having some of the 20 - 40's crafters on tv? Like Jean (who owns this site) and CraftyChica & lizzymahoney? (I know there are others in here I cant think of right now....). There are some very creative Generation X crafters - and it would be so much FUN to see them! That I know I would love to see.
Yes, it would be great to see a sewing 101 show like Crafty Chica mentioned - that's a great idea. Other things on needle arts could be interesting. I like to do a lot of paper crafts - decoupage, scrapbooking, watercolor, shrinky dinks etc. :) so I don't know how typical I am.
What is your show called? Do you have a website? :) Abigail _________________ author of GiftWrapGoddessWraps & Journal Seeds zines - both @ yahoo! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GiftWrapGoddessWraps/

I think right now there is a big overall crafty movement from the generation x'rs. A show with various crafty types showing their 'twist' on things would be pretty awesome. Showcasing craft fairs like the rengade craft fair, bizzare bazaar in boston & l.a., etc. would be pretty interesting too.

I agree with all of you - how to do crafts with a twist on the traditional. I think it's also important to showcase places to buy this sort of craftiness (in all its forms) - ie, crafts shows, but perhaps also shops and studios of people who are doing this work. There are lots of us crazy gen xers who are involved in this craft revolution, but there are lots who love it and want to be part of it, but perhaps don't have the time, or the know-how, and would prefer just supporting crafty people and not actually do it. Interviewing many of the craft people doing their craft in their own studio/environment would also be good.
Following what other people have said, I do agree it would also be great to have lessons in the basics (ie. sewing 101) so that those people who are intimidated by some of the processes, can easily learn - it will also help the crafty people learn a new skill that they can incorporate into their own work. |

Easy furnishings revamps that include more than paint would be great.
I agree,I would love to see the talented crafters that we have in our community share their unique crafts.
How to decide on a sewing/serger machine for your specific needs would be a great follow up to a Sewing 101. |

| Thanks, everybody, for all your responses. I'm not from HGTV, but the company I work for produces shows for both HGTV and DIY. We created and produce the new DIY series "Knitty Gritty," that I hope you all will enjoy. I recognize that there is a large movement among the Gen X and Y'ers in the crafting community, and I want to come up with other show ideas that are aimed specifically at those folks and I know DIY feels the same way. So, again, thank you all and please keep the responses coming. The more informed I am about what people want to see, the more likely it is I can come up with a show idea that answer your needs. |

From the perspective of someone who's on the "top end" of the gen-X, I would love to see some shows that have more cutting-edge crafts. I have spent waaay too much time watching Carol Duvall, and love her to death and do swipe ideas sometimes, but it seems most of the crafty shows on HGTV (and boy do I watch alot of HGTV) have a "country" bend to them, or are all about Fimo and stamping. I have learned way more cool stuff just hanging out at this board, and other similar ones, alot more wild and fun and original crafts.
So it's not just the Gen-X and Y crowd, I'm pushing 40 and would love to see this stuff too- there's a demographic for you, rofl. I have no interest in spending hundreds of dollars on scrappin' supplies, :rolling eyes big time:, I would much rather take my hard-earned cash and go out in search of records to melt or some crazy yarn. |

I always vote for quilting, since I'm obsessed with it....but overall, I'd say I'd be most motivated to watch a show that demonstrates the "new twist" that others here have mentioned. I'd really like to see shows featuring hip, sassy, innovative, and WELL-DESIGNED quilts (and other crafts, both needlearts and paint, ceramics, whatever). There's plenty of country-themed stuff out there. I'd love to see very basic stuff showing exactly how you cut the fabric and run the machine, but also about design--inspiration, developing designs, etc.
I'd love to see some of the super art or artsy quilters and quilt designers out there (Ruth McDowell, Jane Sassaman, the Fun Quilts people, Denyse Schmidt) get featured so they can really talk about their work, and show how they actually construct their pieces.
While we're at it, I think a show featuring thrift store finds being repurposed would be cool.
But, then, I almost never watch TV! d'oh. |

I would like to see:
Reconstructed clothing especially sweaters
How to reupholster and reconstruct furniture. How do I change the shape of my couch? What's in the frames of chairs and sofas?
Sewing with clear vinyl material.
How to make shoes.
Lamp making out of sticks and paper. How to wire different types of lamps. |

I have loved to cross stitch since I was a little girl and would LOVE to see a show on TV that would give me a creative "nudge" in that area... _________________ kathy @

So, everyone seems very interested in seeing a how-to show on the needle arts. My next question would be what young, hip, tv-friendly person would you like to see as the host?
