I'm trying to spend more time here, but in general I've pretty much switched to Livejournal. Call me crazy, but from the beginning of Supernaturale's glitter boards I felt a really strong conservative vibe, and since these are just internet message boards it's easy enough to just stop going there. I'm not so invested in glitter that I think I have to "save" it (I say this, because at one point I did feel like that).

I'm not a huge contributor on either board anymore because I also just ramble in my livejournal, but the tenor of that board has definitely changed - it doesn't feel like a supportive place to exchange ideas anymore. It's too bad...

I'm way happier here and have been since the split. I had taken a break from Glitter, and when I came back, it had changed into supernaturale. I was mildly devastated. The colors are terrible.

These boards don't have to ask a poll to put feminism in the forum descriptions.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I haven't been over there in AGES. The last time I checked in, I learned this was up and I haven't looked back since. What turned me off (other than some crap on the parenting boards) was when I looked at the main page on the boards and it was all "Is anyone called Heather?" and "Whose name is Lindsay?" And juvenile-looking stuff like that. And that was taking up the whole first page!

Although I really miss original getcrafty glitter, I actually like how this one is a bit slower-paced. The main thing I miss, though, is the current events/political threads that would arise there before. Like, if something happened (even, say, Kerry naming Edwards), you knew someone would start a thread about it. And you could just lurk really quickly if you wanted to.

I'm intrigued now. But I do like it here......

I haven't been over there in ages either. It's way too busy for me. I like the feel here so much better. I like that it is slow and there are intelligent, respectful discussions. I had pretty much fallen off of the "old" glitter before the split anyway.

cackalackie, I say start a political thread here. I think it would bring about some interesting, adult discussions.

It's weird the way it cycles around so quickly from chill and chatty to snipe-y and infighting-ish. I don't even check in over there very much anymore -- I just like this board so much better and have so little comp time these days that there's no point. I miss being able to call myself a glitterati, but not enough to be a Supernaturale/Glitter regular.

Plus, my eyes can't take the yellow. Although that's probably a really lame reason that makes me sound ancient.

[ETA: just to clarify -- "I like this board so much better" does not mean "this board is better ahahahahaha," because I feel like it might sound like that. It's just better for me personally. Different strokes, etc. :P]

Hey peppermintsquare- long time no see.
There are a lot of people that I like on the supernaturale boards, but it does see more consevative, and also more sensitive, IMO.
I liked it initially because I always felt like a newbie on old glitter, but it seems to be in a funk.
Oh, and the yellow is terrible.

well, i'm going to go ahead and be the dissentor...
i think there is just as much fluff here as there is there, but there are also plenty of worthwhile discussions of beefier topics on glitter as well. there is more intensity there because there are simply more of the serious, political, debatable topics that come up. i don't prefer one over the other, but i tend to post more on glitter because there is more going on, and i enjoy the interesting debates that happen.

it's a matter of personal preference, and it bothers me to hear this polarizing talk of one board being better than another. they're just different.

I think a lot of the diversity left when the change was made. I lurked for a LONG time. I remember there were posters who had teenagers that could share their side of the debate with teenagers posting about their problems with parents. Kind of like the "what I wish I knew 10 years ago" thread here. I like reading wisdom from all walks of life not just one demographic.

I feel like I kind of stated that wrong when I posted over there. I don't know if it was PmS or frustration at how snippy it had become in general. In some ways I feel like I should go back and explain myself further but I'm just not in the mood to be caught in a catfight. It's kind of sad though....

cackalackie- I wondered what had happened to you. glad to see you're still around

I stopped going there mostly because I found it so visually assaulting. I guess I am an old lady too. And when I'd check in, there'd be a million new posts from people I didn't recognize, and I didn't feel like I could keep up since I could only read for a few minutes before I wanted to rip my eyeballs out. So as brdgt said, I don't really feel invested anymore. I love the pace of these boards; I don't feel the need to check in constantly. I can actually step away from the puter and do some crafting!

However, I'm sure there are benefits to that board as well, and once the drama dies down those who can handle the yellow glow will participate in good discussions once again. :)
