I want to get my tubes tied, or get "fixed."

I don't want to have any children, due to family and health reasons. I heard somewhere that family clinics will do it cheap or even free, is this true?

I know a lot of you probably want me to think it over, and I will. I just want to know if getting fixed will be affordable. I don't want a shot or an IUD (I believe that's what they're called...) I think this is the right option for me..so I just hope you can supply me info and not lecture or judge...thanks, I appreciate it.

I don't know about low-cost or free tubal ligation (I know its not covered by most insurance companies), but I do know several women who got Essure (http://www.essure.com/consumer/c_homepage.aspx<

Be warned, if you are single, under 35 and childless you may have to jump through a lot of hoops to get it done. I have several friends in the UK and the US who are child free and every single one of them has had huge difficulty getting their tubes tied as doctors tell them "you'll change your mind when you are older/meet a nice man/see your friends have babies". For some reason I don't understand a lot of people cannot comprehend that some women do not wish to be pregnant or mothers.

Look up some child free groups online and they will probably be able to give you a lot of advice and support.

I read a story about a lady who's doctor refused to do the procedure of tying her tubes untill she had seen a psychatrist to ensure she was "sane."

And don't let any doctor feed you the bullshit about regretting it - if you look at the statistics closely, the group that regrets it the least are childfree people who choose to be sterilized in the 20's (as opposed to people who didn't have a choice, already have kids and then get remarried and want kids with the new spouse, etc.)

I think that the doctors are probably just looking out for themselves on that one.
I can imagine that they don't want some woman showing up 20 yrs later, and suing them because they "Weren't told they had other options, or really made sure that they wanted a tubal ligation procedure" and had emotional damages or something.
That would probably be the main reason they are so hesitant to provide such a procedure to a young woman w.o making absolutely positively 100% sure that they really do not want children.
