I was unbelievably impressed with Obama. It is amazing that he is such a new comer to national politics and yet spoke with the same ease and passion as Bill Clinton. If he does not win a seat in the Senate, I will be hugely disappointed.

Teresa was also very good, though I would have liked it if she had gone a little faster. I loved what she had to say about "opinionated women" and was glad that she didn't just say something to the effect of "I love my husband. He is a swell guy and you should vote for him," but rather placed him in the context of Democratic and American ideals. She will make an excellent First Lady.

You know, Obama is a newcomer politically, but he's a law professor and former editor of harvard law review. He's really quite established as both a lawyer and a teacher, and incredibly well-loved in Chicago as a whole and South Side Chicago in particular (where I live).

Totally, totally, our first black president.

I am so in love with Barak Obama. I just want to go out and register people to vote.

I was so engrossed by Obama's speech I actually stopped knitting.

Really, there is no higher compliment. He literally gave me chills.

Barak Obama WAS amazing, both in his speech and in the interview afterwards! Equally as exciting as his speech was the reaction of all those providing commentary--they were going crazy for him, saying how that in the future, when he shows up at the DNC on the presidential ticket, we will trace his presence on the national scene back to that one moment. It was quite moving. I can't wait to call my friend in Chicago--she only moved there about 9 months ago, so it's possible she's not yet aware of Obama--I have to tell her how amazing he is!

And I thought Theresa's speech was great. The pols afterward kind of poo-pooed her speech, said it was "wonky" and that she should have provided a personal glimpse of John Kerry because that's what he needs right now, but I thought her speech was quite powerful. She came across as amazingly intelligent and self-possessed, and she's a wonderful orator! I loved that part where she quoted Abraham Lincoln--to hear one masterful speaker quote the words of another, . . . well, I was really impressed.

I'm a little scared of Kerry's speech Thursday night. I really like the guy, but I just have this sort of doomed feeling that it's going to be anticlimactic. He needs to achieve so much, and I think his speech will be a really good indicator of his ability to deliver the goods.

By the way, where the hell do you get Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers? Anybody got any suggestions?

You can get Kerry bumperstickers, and other merchandise at his official website. I don't know the correct address, but I got it by using Kerry2004.com.

Isn't there kerrygear.com ? Or something?

I haven't been watching any of the speeches, I am so bad, but I was really impressed with Obama when he was interviewed by CNN; he seemed honest and comfortable with answering off-putting questions; he didn't try to mask that more people are trying to vote Bush out of office than Kerry in, so to speak. Plus, he's kind of hunky (AGH THAT IS SO BAD OF ME).

obama is totally hunky, i agree! he was truly outstanding, a little stumbly in the first chunk of the speech, but he was giving me chills at the end.

it looks like the republicans might just give up on the obama senatorial race and not bother putting up anyone against him. no sense throwing the money away since it seems unfathomable that he'll lose the election after this.

for those outside the illinois political loop, his opponent jack ryan dropped out after his divorce records were unsealed and they contained allegations that he tried to force his wife to go to sex clubs with him (she's jeri ryan from "boston public" fame). anyway, the whole thing was kind of weak & i was bummed that obama didn't get the opportunity to soundly squash him in the election. on the plus side, no more borderline-racist political ads from ryan polluting my airwaves.

i was a little disappointed in howard dean, i was hoping he might give us the dean scream for old time's sake. the audience's reaction to him was a bit overwhelming -- it certainly gives kerry something to live up to that he might not be able to pull off.

and how about ron reagan? he came about as close as he could to endorsing the dems & kerry without actually doing so, i thought.

I know what you mean. I feel the same way. The speeches thus far have been impressive - overly so. He already has a lot to live up to.

I thought Chris Heinz did a good job introducing his mother. Tonight, Cate Edwards will introduce her mother, who will in turn introduce her husband. That could be interesting.

Oh yeah - I was really moved by Ron Reagan's speech too. I found it fascinating.

just wanted to give a heads-up for jennifer granholm's speech tonight (michigan's governor). she is a smart, likeable lady and a rocking governor to boot. she'd be my choice for obama's future v-p, excepting that she was born in canada. which likely has much do to with how groovy she is.

Me too, there was that part where he was naming all those states and it would have been perfect!

Given Kerry's dry speeches of the past, I'm not expecting much tomorrow night. Who knows? Maybe I'll be pleasantly suprised. I'd rather not set my expectations too high.

For now I will just be content to listen to the amazing speeches that everyone else have been giving.

I am in love, and his name is Barack Obama. My legal residency is in MN, but I go to college in IL, so I pay attention to politics there, at least a little. I'm in my college Democrats club, and we love us some Obama. I proudly wear his campaign button on my bag. I plan on telling all my friends in IL that if they don't vote Obama I'm never speaking to them again. I haven't been so excited about a politician since Paul Wellstone, and that's saying a lot, because Wellstone is my absolute hero.

I loved Ilana Wexler! She's so adorable, she looks like Annie! I think it's so cool that she's getting involved. My little brother is 17, and I'm trying to get him interested in politics. He's really not so much; he says there's nothing he can do since he can't vote. Sigh. I'm trying to knock some sense into the kid. I wish he would have been home so I could've made him watch her speech with me.

I saw her last night, and WOW--what a fantastic and animated speaker she is! Not to sound trite, but I was truly impressed. I was watching the convention on PBS, and Jim Lehrer pointed out that many people were just milling about the convention and not really paying much attention to her, yet she continued to deliver an impassioned speech. I dig her.

Al Sharpton was quite a spectacle, as usual. :)

I adore John and Elizabeth Edwards. I just frickin' love to hear John Edwards speak, and I really loved his speech last night.

And I agree with whomever said it in a post above, watching the DNC makes me feel incredibly optimistic.

Well, he did it!!! My fears were all for nothing, as I think Kerry really came through. He seemed very strong and confident (despite his concern that children in Harlem suffer from "hair pollution"), and the reaction, from both the crowd and the pundits offering commentary, was extremely positive! He just may be able to pull this off. And now, thank god the convention's over. I've really burnt myself out from total political immersion over the past three days!
