so i was intending to dye a white dress periwinkle, but i could only get my hands on rit dye (liquid, not powder) in royal blue and wine. i was thinking of taking the royal blue and adding a little bit of the wine to make a blue-purple. if i just add a lot of water, will the dye weaken (and not work), or will it end up being the periwinkle i'd always dreamed of?
does anyone have any advice re: lightening dye colors? |

| Generally, you do lighter effects by shorter immersion times. Have your wet wrung out dress, dip it and swirl in the dye pot, pull out in minutes for a light dye, in hours for a deeper color. |

I would just use a teensy bit of dye and then heat it for the recommended amount of time. I dye a LOT and that's what I do. I would make your dye bath and test it on a small scrap of fabric with the same content as the dress, then strengthen or weaken the dyebath until you're satisfied with the results.
Good luck! _________________ http://www.helloyarn.com |
