Well, when I was researching Czech food for my recent 3-week-long Euro 2004 theme party, I learned that it's a lot like traditional German food: potatoes, cabbage, etc. I served potato Pierogies. You can get them in the frozen section of the grocery store.
However, it could be that what these guys would really appreciate is some real American food. Even my foreign (Scottish) husband goes crazy whenever someone offers him homemade cookies, for instance. |

Let's just say that my mother-in-law wasn't much of a baker (or cook, for that matter).
And you know how at Christmas, everyone has loads of cookies and cakes and sweets that they've made or someone made them? Completely foreign to my poor husband! He doesn't take it for granted, that's for sure. Any home-cooked meal is very appreciated. |

This website has some good recipes for regular home-style czech food:

You can never go wrong with dumplings, they're not that hard to make, just a little time consuming.
As a European and food lover, I personally would prefer any type of meal made from scratch to something frozen that tries to approximate food from my country. But then, I'd appreciate the invitation and the effort of the host no matter what was there. |
