| I'll celebrate when heroines are overweight and have bad hair. |

Good point, ursonate. I've had a bad hair day today, myself.
Unfortunately, I'd think more of these heroines if they weren't so damned annoying. Kimpossible is such a boring show, and I'm saying this objectively, thinking back to how I'd feel watching this if I were eleven. The animation on that show is terrible; everyone looks the same.

Maybe its just the extreme case of optimism i was born with, but I was happy to see this story. I read it as showing the increase of female leads, as opposed to when they were just used for sidekicks or sexpots. As the mom of an 11-year-old girl I'm happy to see this change. My daughter was thrilled at Anya Corazon, the new teen superhero in the Marvel comics line - she kicks butt and has lots of brains too. We went out and got the comic right away!
Overall, at least it is something to build on :-) I hope the trend continues and branches out! _________________ ***

It's true that at least they've STARTED building on it. Then again, I don't think there will ever be a superhero, male or female, that isn't either incredibly attractive or incredibly deformed. You know, a handsome man who happens to have a slight weak chin, or maybe a pretty girl with a hooked nose. In cartoon/comic world, such things don't exist, and I guess it wouldn't be fiction without such moments.
Anya Corazon sounds like a good job; it's about time Marvel did something to reach out to the girls, instead of just the boys. _________________ When you got a hundred voices singin',

But they do exist!
Just look at comics from Fantagraphics, Drawn & Quarterly and countless other independent comics and graphic novels. 'Course the problem is, they're independent...
I guess ultimately, I don't care if the hero is male of female. It just does give me a little inner smile when a woman kicks ass (especially if it's not expected). |
