You can buy etching cream at most craft stores. It's an acid, you have to be cautious and wear gloves and goggles.
You could also use emery cloth, a very fine black sandpaper, to rough up the surface to make it look frosted. An emery board is much coarser. |

As I recall, these are wine bottlish with a strand of twinkle lights stuffed down them? Nah, they don't get too hot. This is a new take on an old thing. And the light strands have gotten cooler since way back when I did this sort of thing. |

You mean the Japanese lantern? You can hide a layer of chicken wire in the middle for extra strength. I know of someone who pulled it off successfully - they didn't put so many holes in their lantern, just one big square one for each side. And they made most of the pieces individually and glued them together wiiiiith...epoxy?...instead of trying to make the whole thing at once. I think you can glue before you cure, which helps a little. |
