I'm putting together a gift for a friend of mine who mentioned she wanted to get into scrapbooking. I want it to be a beginner's kit with all the basics. I started with a cute wood tray that I painted white and aged it out (sort of a shabby chic/French country look) and then started gathering stuff from my own craft closet that she could use: some fancy paper, ribbon, a glue stick, glitter pen... oh, and a scrapbook.

What else should I include? I'm not a scrapbooker myself, so I'm not sure. Is there some majorly important scrapbooking item that I am leaving out?

I really like the Fiskars (and generics) scissors with different patterns. They are great for trimming pictures, and the different papers. (Bonus, all Fiskars products are 1/3 off at Hobby Lobby this week)

(I don't scrap book, I use the scrapbooking products to make cards)

How about starting her off with a few photos/postcards/letters/articles/etc..? Some stickers would be nice too--the pressed flowers sort. And a good set of pens would be handy as well. Stabilo has a great range.

Are you going for the traditional or the "scrapbooking outside of the box" theme? You might check out MantoFev for ideas. Her site is choc-full of them.

I personally don't scrapbook, per se. But I love the ephemera.

ETA - just be sure you get all the acid free paper and appropriate glue (and I'm sure you have already) ;)

My faves for paper projects:
*a good pair of scissors (I just treated myself to some new titanium ones!)
*circle or square paper punches
*acid-free double-sided tape

I tend to use the joanns or michaels 40% off coupons or hit the HL sales for the bigger purchases

I like the idea of starting her off with some pictures or maybe do a sample page - something to jump start her creativity!
