So, I never actually saw the series "Freaks & Geeks" while it was on the air. But now I have been watching episodes on DVD I borrowed from a friend and my husband and I LOVE this show.

I guess it was only on for like a season or so. Why??? Why do decent, smart, funny shows get canned and crap like "Reba" and "Yes Dear" keep on going? It seems strange to be sad over the loss of a show that was on so long ago.

Had anyone been a fan while it was on, or discovered it later like I did? I think I need to try to find some fan sites online and commiserate. Cuz I myself am a big geek.

Isn't this the universal question?

Along those same lines, I am so happy that Arrested Development was renewed because I love that show and I was worried it would not make it.

Back to Freaks & Geeks... I bought the DVD set for my boy for his birthday because he loved the show when it first aired. He likes the DVDs so much that he rations the episodes to savor them over a longer period of time. So cute. I bought the regular DVD set, not the super cool yearbook one, since the regular one is like half the price of the super cool yearbook set. Anyway, the regular one has great extras. I love the deleted scenes.

We rented the DVD set and watched it obsessively...until the last 15 minutes of the last episode on the last disc, which was horribly scratched and totally unplayable. AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!! There was much cursing. So I have no clue how everything ends, and the video store doesn't have another copy.

Yes. Love that show. I'm also quite irked at the cancellation of "Wonderfalls", but pleased that "Arrested Develpoment" got renewed and that there are new episodes of "Family Guy." I just think that TV execs pitch crap to the lowest intellect level possible, since most people will wind up watching whatever random crap is on even if it sucks. THus, there really isn't much incentive for actually producing good TV, and I wind up watching the Discovery Channel and sinking deeper into the nerd abyss.

i watched the show when it was on. which was quite an effort of love (they kept changing the time and day and then it would be off for a while, and then on again.. etc etc).

i was so sad when it got cancelled. i am amazed that arrested development and gilmore girls are still on the air because i love them both. most shows i like get cancelled. so much so that i almost don't even want to watch new shows anymore, lest my heart be broken yet again. :)

It ends kind of strangely with Lindsey and Kim going on tour following the Grateful Dead.

xoe, I really hope you are only kidding. Because I haven't finished seeing all the shows yet and it would suck to have it spoiled.

I LOVE FREAKS AND GEEKS.

my penpal told me about it when it was on, but i didn't watch much tv at that time so i never checked it out. i guess he bought the dvd set when it came out, and started prodding me again to rent it because he knew i'd like it. and i do, obsessively. my boyfriend and i got it from the library and it's already 8 days late - i can't bear to part with it. i have 5 episodes left. such a great show.

every night, even though we have homework, my boyfriend will look at me and say with puppy dog eyes, "freaks and geeks?" he's cute. anyway, i'm going to stop yammering now, but i'm glad to read that someone else discovered this gem recently too!

is that really what happens, xoe? dammit! i'll have to forget i read that.

i was a freak in high school.

well, i didn't think i was really, but that seemed to be what the majority of my teeny tiny graduating class of 63 people thought.

i discovered f&g this year, when my friend had them all on dvd.

i lovelovelove all of them, and was so sad to see it end. (not to mention disappointed by the last one, but i digress....)

so so good. so so sad that's gone. :(

My mom randomly ordered them from NetFlix, and we had F&G marathons until we watched them all. She is in love with the really nerdy young boy and wants to start a fan club.

It is sad that television this wholesome can't make it.

ohhh. freaks and geeks was awesome.
the limited edition box set is a little ridiculous. i mean, 30 hours of commentary is just unnecessary. but deleted scenes are awesome. and just having the show to watch over and over is also rad.

i was part freak and geek and hermit, so i had plenty of friday nights to stay home and watch it when it was on.

AH! I liked the show a lot when i was on, & I just finished watching all of them on Netflix. Totally awesome. Such a great show!! I adored Bill, he was so funny.
I heard it got cancelled because (like somebody else said) it kept getting moved around in the schedule. But I heard the producers have a new show on this fall thatäs going to have lots of cameos by the F&G people. But I can't remember the name of it... anyone??
