Let's enter Pretendland for a moment -
If you came into a lump of $ you didn't have to use for practical purposes and the genie or beloved aunt or whoever said you could only spend it on wonderful things for yourself, what would be the first 5 or so things you' run out and get?

For me, I'm lusting after:

1) an ipod
2) a sewing machine - I' eyeing a Kenmore model
3) a digital camera
4) bras and pants that actually fit
5) a couch. I've never owned a non-used couch before.

Even though I want that genie, sometimes the lusting part is kind of fun too.

What a great question..! Hrm let me see..

1. Soup up my Mac with more memory, a large screen and a large Wacom. (Does the count for 3..?)

2. New bicycle. Bicycles are supposed to be crap in Amsterdam if you don't want it nicked. But mine is so u-ugly and crap no one wants to steal it. So I want nothing special, just something with lights, a bell and footbreaks.

3. A trip around the world.

4. A summer house with a sailboat in the Swedish archipelago.

5. Put up a Walgreens branch in my hood. I miss that store. *sniff*

if i had a wad of $$ i couldn't spend on paying off debt or on books, or things i actually need:

1. ipod
2. ball-winder
3. vacation for winter break
4. re-subsciption to Nest Magazine
5. new shoes, maybe danskos.

not to hijack, but what's a good, supportive shoe with a grippy sole which also looks cute?

1. Knee-high black boots that lace up the back with Louis XIV heels, in 6.5 W (Yeah, right. Most shoes in my size are fugly.)

2. More opaque hose/tights in various colors. Or pantyhose that don't run.

3. Perfect pair of lightweight wool pinstripe pants that don't make my butt and thighs look huge. One in black, one in gray.

4. OK, the gray pair of pants is #4.

5. *blush* OK, complete leg wax. (Yeeeouch!)

Runners-up:

* Books for my sweetie. He's all about the books. I don't feel bad encouraging that habit. (Books Anonymous. There should be such a 12-step program. But, what would you do for the literature table at meetings???)

* New apartment/condo w' built-in bookshelves, more closet space, and a washer/dryer. (Sorry, practical, but I want this!) And an oven where mice don't camp out and poop in the space underneath the burners.

Well, they're walking shoes/sneakers, but the TX Traction I'm wearing right now have an incredibly grippy sole. They got me thru part of last winter, and the soles slipped a lot less than my old Doc Martens.

Aha! I found my sneakers. The style is called "Relativity," and I got it from Famous Footwear during their buy one/get one half off sale:

Whoa, that's a good sale.

Not sure if it's your taste, though...hope this helps.

I believe Nest has folded. It's such a shame.

Well, this did happen to me recently, but I used it to pay off my credit cards instead of spending it like crazy. My one little splurge was that I just bought a wallet. I have been looking for one since my birthday in April.

I would get:

1. laser hair removal
2. a new laoptop
3. cute flats
4. subscription to US (so trashy I know, but my best friend's bf got me one for my birthday last year and it finally ran out. I am so addicted)
5. a desperately needed vacation

My wish list is as follows:
1. ipod
2. living room furniture. I have great tables but old, used, crappy couches. I would definitely do something about living room seating.
3. custom craft storage. I would like to revamp my workspace to better store my stamping supplies. I have things everywhere.
4. visit the inlaws in Oman. Plane ticket prices are insane.
5. Super expensive designer shoes. Just one pair. Maybe Prada...

i don't know how big the budget is, but here, as follows:

1. a decent used or new car for my boyfriend (i know it's supposed to be for me, but really, this would be... i've been driving him everywhere since his car died)
2. an ipod
3. a mac
4. a pair of totally impractical marc jacobs shoes
5. a lifetime subscription to ARTnews

if i, say, won the lottery - i'd definitely buy a small house in denver's wash park neighborhood. i have my eye on one in particular.

I didn't know anyone else here was in Denver! Hi, for_esme!

I'm having trouble coming up with 5 impractical things I want...

1. Definitely trade in my big desktop computer for a space-saving laptop
2. Those nonessential car repairs I've been putting off, like replacing the roof liner and installing a working stereo
3. Hiring a professional organizer to help me get this room uncluttered so I can decorate it the way I want (does that count as a "thing"?)
4. Oooh, an artpad.
5. A big-screen TV for teh hubby, 'cause he really wants one.

Hmmm, I would buy

1. A potters wheel, kiln and clay (I am counting this all as one thing, we can pretend that a pottery shops offers a starter kit with all these things in). I used to do a lot of pottery at school and was good at it, but I haven't been able to afford to go to classes since I started university and it's so soothing.

2. Additional work on my tattoo on my back and one on my foot. Again, it's something I want but just don't have the money for (and also cannot justify the cost of my favourite tatooist, even though I get mates rates)

3. A new bed. I have a king sized, but it's just so sad looking. I want a bed that looks like a furniture catalogue bed, with the fat pillows and absolutley no junk underneath it.

4. To buy the flat I rent , and put in a new kitchen with a bigger oven, and a huge fridge freezer.

5. A bike, I don't want a car, but I do want to get places more quickly than the bus gets me there.

1. Travel (Tokyo, Indiana, Seattle, Portland, NYC, Philadelphia, on and on)
2. Waxing that I can't do myself
3. frivolous gifts (like a Japanese goth lolita magazine for my little sister - those cost $20 - $30!)
4. car
5. new mobile phone
